At the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign, there are two housing options for you to choose from: University Housing, which are the dormitories provided by the University, and Apartments, which are mostly off-campus housing for students.

 

If you are a freshman, you are most likely required to stay in the dormitories for a year. After that, you will be allowed to choose to either stay in the dorms, or move into an apartment of your own. 

If you are a transfer student, you will be allowed to choose whichever option suits you better.
